Katie Holmes is an actress who gained her fame from her role on the TV series "Dawson's Creek" and media attention for her relationship with actor Tom Cruise. She has acted in many movies and is considered one of the most beautiful people according to several magazines. She was born December 18th, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio and is the youngest of five children.
At the age of 14, Holmes began to take modeling classes. In 1996, she went to a IMTA competition in New York City and found an agent. The agent got her a role in the film "The Ice Storm" in 1997. That same year, Holmes auditioned for a role on "Dawson's Creek". She didn't want to come for the audition in person because she was cast in her school play so sent in a tape instead. Despite the unusual circumstances, Holmes got the part and became a sensation because of her big, bright eyes and innocent appearance.
From 1998 to 2003, Holmes played the part of Joey Potter on the show, which was a hit. She also had lead roles in several films which were mostly marketed towards teens, including "Teaching Mrs. Tingle", "Go", and "Disturbing Behavior".
In 2005, Katie Holmes gained a lot of attention when she started dating Tom Cruise. The actor proposed to Holmes in June 2005 on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The couple had a daughter in April 2006 and were married in November of that year. While Holmes was with Cruise, she joined the "Church of Scientology". Katie Holmes's recent works include "Mad Money", "The Romantics" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" which is scheduled for release in 2011.
